Military Requirements, Ministry of Culture, Busan City, and Korean Film Council Accept Final Name
On the 23rd, Busan's Gijang-gun announced that the official name of the comprehensive film studio being constructed by the Korean Film Council in Gijang Doye Village has been confirmed as 'Busan Gijang Studio.'
After recent consultations with related organizations, the county finalized the studio's name as 'Busan Gijang Studio' and formalized the use of this name by specifying it in the 'Phase 1 Project Site' sales contract signed with the Korean Film Council on the 22nd.
Until the confirmation of the name 'Busan Gijang Studio,' the film studio had been referred to by various names. From the initial agreement in 2015 to the recent groundbreaking ceremony, it was called ▲Global Video Infrastructure ▲Busan Studio ▲Busan Gijang Copix Studio ▲(tentative) Busan Studio, causing confusion due to unclear naming and administrative fatigue during various project processes.
In particular, most of the names excluded 'Gijang,' the location where the studio is being built, leading local residents to demand a name reflecting Gijang-gun's presence. Since the studio project is the region's most significant long-cherished project, the county actively reflected residents' opinions and continuously requested related organizations to finalize the studio's name as 'Busan Gijang Studio.' This was ultimately accepted and confirmed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Busan City, and the Korean Film Council.
Going forward, 'Busan Gijang Studio' will be used as the official name symbolizing the nation's largest comprehensive film and video studio and will be uniformly applied in various events, media reports, and external and internal documents.
County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, "With the confirmation of the name Busan Gijang Studio, we expect to widely promote Gijang-gun, where the studio is located, and revitalize local tourism linked to the studio." He added, "We will spare no effort to actively support Busan Gijang Studio to become a forward base for the film and video industry where domestic filmmakers can realize their dreams and a space where local residents and tourists can enjoy and communicate through culture and arts."
The Busan Gijang Studio construction project is one of Gijang-gun's long-cherished projects promoted following the decision to relocate the Korean Film Council to Busan. The Phase 1 project of Busan Gijang Studio aims for completion in September 2026 and will be built within the Gijang Doye Village tourist area in Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun, with a total floor area of 12,631㎡. It will be developed as the largest studio in the country, equipped with three 'indoor studios,' an 'open studio,' 'artwork facilities,' and 'production support facilities.'
