The Gyeonggi-do Health and Medical Development Committee has been launched.

On the 22nd, Gyeonggi-do announced on the 23rd that it held the first meeting of the ‘Gyeonggi-do Health and Medical Development Committee’ at the new Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office in Gwanggyo, Suwon, to present a vision for the development of health and medical care and the promotion of residents' health.

The provincial Health and Medical Development Committee is chaired jointly by Professor Jo In-sung of Chung-Ang University College of Medicine and Kim Seong-jung, the first deputy governor of Gyeonggi-do, and consists of 19 members including the director of the provincial Health and Wellness Bureau and experts in the health and medical labor sector.

Previously, when Kim Dong-yeon was a gubernatorial candidate, he signed a policy agreement with the health and medical industry labor union and promised to form a committee to establish a mid- to long-term plan for Gyeonggi-do’s health and medical policies and to present a vision for health and medical development.

At the meeting, the committee shared the role and limitations of local governments in a policy environment centered on the central government’s health and medical sector and discussed policy measures to maximize the role of local governments in the future. They also discussed operational plans for the committee, including discovering innovative agendas to present a mid- to long-term vision.

During its two-year activity period, the committee will promote the presentation of mid- to long-term visions, directions, and policies for the development of health and medical care in the province through subcommittee discussions and deliberative workshops.

Jo In-sung, chairperson of the Gyeonggi-do Health and Medical Development Committee, stated, "During an unprecedented medical crisis, government policies are not effective on the ground. We will strive to make this committee play a practical role in leading the discovery of innovative health and medical policies and presenting a mid- to long-term vision in Gyeonggi-do."

Kim Seong-jung, first deputy governor of Gyeonggi-do, said, "This year, to protect essential medical services in the province, we have steadily carried out tasks such as financial support for nine regional emergency medical centers and establishing a 24-hour pediatric emergency patient care system. Additionally, on September 11, to resolve medical disparities in the northeastern region of Gyeonggi, we selected two sites for ‘innovative public hospitals’ in Namyangju and Yangju. We are doing what the province can do step by step." He added, "We ask for your significant role in policy recommendations and mid- to long-term strategy establishment for the development of provincial health policies going forward."
