"Active and Proactive Energy Transition Policies Needed"
Omiseop Oh, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, who proposed the amendment, recently passed the partial amendment of the 'Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Parking Lot Ordinance' during the Social and Urban Committee review held in the 326th extraordinary session.
The amendment stipulates that renewable energy installations such as solar power generation facilities can be installed in parking lots established or managed by the Seo-gu Office.
Councilor Oh stated, “In a situation where damage caused by climate disasters is increasing exponentially, Seo-gu has declared '2045 Carbon Neutral Seo-gu,' aiming to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2045," adding, "To achieve this, an active and proactive energy transition policy is necessary.”
He continued, “We must expand renewable energy production to reduce the use of fossil energy,” and said, “I hope that the ordinance amendment will improve awareness of renewable energy and bring us one step closer to the energy reduction target.”
Councilor Oh currently serves as the chair of the Seo-gu Council's Special Committee on Climate Crisis Response. The Special Committee on Climate Crisis Response actively monitors and proposes alternatives regarding the Seo-gu Office's policies to address the climate crisis.
