Nonsan Mayor Baek Sunghyun Requests Ministry of the Interior and Safety for Prompt Promotion of National Defense Industrial Complex

Nonsan City, Chungnam Province, announced on the 23rd that Mayor Baek Seonghyeon met with Han Soonki, Director General for Local Finance and Economy at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, on the 22nd to request the prompt advancement of the National Defense Industrial Complex project.

Mayor Baek told Director Han, "Since the beginning of the 8th popularly elected administration, I have visited the central government several times to explain the necessity and urgency of the National Defense Industrial Complex project, resulting in the completion of permits and approvals 1 year and 4 months ahead of schedule. Recently, with the decision to relocate the National Defense Future Technology Research Center, it is expected that the relocation of affiliated organizations and companies will also accelerate."

He especially emphasized, "With discussions underway for the development of a 740,000-pyeong general defense industrial complex, Nonsan will become a leading city in Korea's defense industry, boasting a total of 1 million pyeong of defense industrial complexes."

Mayor Baek stated, "The Nonsan National Defense Industrial Complex is not only a project to revitalize the local economy and overcome the crisis of population decline, but also a national project that plays an important role in Korea's national defense and contributes to balanced national development. Please support the prompt completion of administrative procedures so that the Nonsan National Defense Industrial Complex can quickly establish itself as the center of defense through swift commencement of construction and shortened company move-in schedules."

Director Han expressed deep agreement with the necessity and urgency of the Nonsan National Defense Industrial Complex project, and said he would actively review its inclusion in the central investment review and work to ensure its approval.

Meanwhile, the city plans to focus all efforts on securing the budget for the project, aiming to provide LH public support funds in the first half of 2025 following the central investment review scheduled for the end of the year, commence construction in the second half of 2025, shorten the company move-in period through partial completion in 2027, and complete the industrial complex by 2029.
