Beyond Tourism Events to Revitalize Local Economy... Commitment to More Enriching Events Next Year
The direct and indirect economic impact of the ‘2024 Jarasum Flower Festa (Autumn)’, which concluded on the 13th, was estimated to be approximately 17.7 billion KRW. As a result, the Jarasum Flower Festa is being recognized as more than just a tourism event, having injected substantial vitality into the local economy.
According to Gapyeong County (Governor Seo Tae-won) on the 23rd, a total of about 227,000 people visited the festival site during the 30-day event period, generating a direct economic effect of 1.305 billion KRW. Among this, admission fee revenue amounted to about 670 million KRW, and sales revenue from agricultural products and experience booths reached approximately 630 million KRW. Notably, the sales of agricultural products recorded during this autumn festival were 589 million KRW, and combined with the spring festival sales, the total exceeded 1.1 billion KRW.
Additionally, indirect economic effects such as entrance fees to local tourist attractions, food sales, and accommodation during the event period were estimated to reach 16.4 billion KRW. The festival also created 73 jobs, providing new opportunities for local residents. This is seen as evidence that the Jarasum Flower Festa has established itself as a key pillar of economic growth in Gapyeong County.
A county official stated, “One of the success factors of this festival was the variety of programs and experiential activities,” adding, “During the festival period, various events such as the Han River watershed walking event, street art performances, Gapyeong County Flower Kimchi Festa, as well as food booths and a multicultural flea market, were operated to enhance visitors’ enjoyment.”
However, it was noted that facility improvements are needed, including power supply within Jarasum Namdo, and that visitors experienced inconvenience using restrooms due to large crowds on weekends, as well as difficulties in flower maintenance caused by hot weather. These issues will be actively addressed next year.
Governor Seo Tae-won said, “Going forward, the Jarasum Flower Festa plans to offer richer content covering both spring and autumn seasons with more diverse programs,” and added, “We will work harder to address the shortcomings revealed in this festival so that next year’s event can satisfy all visitors.”
