Busan Premium Seafood Association Announces Winners of 'Unique Seafood Dessert Recipe' Contest

114 Recipes Submitted, 13 Selected

The Busan Premium Seafood Association (President Park Yong-jun) announced the winners of the "2024 Busan Premium Seafood Unique Recipe Contest," which was held for about a month starting from September 2.


The Busan Premium Seafood Association was established to promote the safety and excellence of seafood produced and processed in the Busan area, aiming to raise awareness that anyone can easily and conveniently cook using seafood through this contest.


This contest was conducted through the well-known domestic recipe community "Mangae Recipe," with a total of 114 recipes submitted across six categories (Seaweed/Kelp, Processed Gim, Salted Mackerel, Fish Cake, Pollock Roe, Anchovy Fish Sauce).


For fair judging, the association selected a total of 13 entries through the Busan Local Food Lab, chaired by taste columnist Park Sang-hyun, including 1 grand prize, 6 excellence awards, and 1 encouragement award per category across the six categories.


The Busan Local Food Lab, responsible for judging the contest, is a private-led organization launched in February to identify the regionality and historicity of food from Busan’s perspective and to enable food to function as a cultural and tourism content of the region, thereby realizing the true "Gourmet City Busan."


The grand prize-winning recipe, "Tofu Tiramisu with Anchovy Fish Sauce Caramel," was praised for expressing a unique seafood dessert flavor with a sweet and salty caramel sauce made using easily accessible ingredients such as tofu, coffee, and anchovy fish sauce.


The grand prize winner receives a cash prize of 1 million KRW, excellence award winners receive 500,000 KRW, and encouragement award winners receive premium seafood gift sets worth 100,000 KRW. All participants receive premium seafood gift sets worth 30,000 KRW as participation prizes.


The selection results and all submitted recipes can be viewed on the "2024 Busan Premium Seafood Unique Dessert Recipe Contest" page on the Mangae Recipe website.


The association plans to use these award-winning recipes, which creatively express Busan premium seafood with unique recipes, as content for future promotional activities.


Park Yong-jun, CEO of Samjin Fish Cake and president of the association, said, "We deeply appreciate all participants who showed interest in Busan premium seafood and submitted valuable works to this contest. We plan to continue promoting Busan premium seafood through various activities."


The Busan Premium Seafood Association is an organization formed by member companies certified by Busan City to jointly sell Busan premium seafood. It consists of 16 member companies including Gijang Mulsan Co., Ltd., Seokha Co., Ltd., Deokhwa Food Co., Ltd., Daekyung F&B Co., Ltd., Samyang Seafood Co., Ltd., Heechang Mulsan Co., Ltd., Gijang Specialty Fishery Cooperative Corporation, Dongwon Haesarang Co., Ltd., Bukwang F&G Co., Ltd., Namgwang Food Co., Ltd., Sehwa Seafood Co., Ltd., Neulpureun Bada Co., Ltd., Matdeulan Food Co., Ltd., Busan Segwang Food Co., Ltd., Samjin Food Co., Ltd., and Amazing Factory Co., Ltd.


Since last November, they have been continuously conducting various activities to change consumer perceptions of seafood by developing the joint brand "BUSAN BLUES."


The "Busan Premium Seafood Certification System" is a certification system that considers manufacturing facility conditions such as HACCP application for excellent seafood in Busan, registration of processing facilities, and product quality. Seafood products that obtain this certification are designated as "Busan Premium Seafood."
