Yeoju Sweet Potato Character Establishes Itself as a New Local Icon

Yeoju-si, Effective Promotion of Local Specialty with Sweet Potato Sculpture

The sweet potato sculpture created by the Yeoju Sweet Potato Research Association has become a new landmark in Yeoju after being installed around Silleuksa Temple, effectively boosting promotional efforts.

According to Yeoju City on the 23rd, the sculpture installed near Silleuksa Temple received great acclaim from tourists visiting the 2024 representative festival of Yeoju, the Ogok Naru Festival, rapidly rising as a popular character of Yeoju. The large sweet potato character balloons using this character also gained significant popularity.

Lee Eun-gyu, president of the Yeoju Sweet Potato Research Association, stated, “We created the sculpture to widely promote the excellence of Yeoju sweet potatoes and to enhance pride in local agricultural products. We hope many tourists feel the charm of Yeoju sweet potatoes through the sweet potato character and come to love them even more.”

Jeon Chang-hyun, head of the Technology Extension Division of Yeoju City, said, “Sweet potatoes are a representative specialty of Yeoju, and the Agricultural Technology Center will continue to make efforts to promote the excellence of Yeoju agricultural products to tourists.”
