Dangjin City, Chungnam Province, began operating the province's first "unmanned base disinfection facility" on the 15th.
The unmanned base disinfection facility is a fully automated system that covers all stages: vehicle entry, license plate recognition, washing, disinfection, drying, personal disinfection, and issuance of a disinfection certificate.
The temporary Sinpyeong base disinfection facility, which had previously operated only during periods of high risk for livestock infectious diseases, has now been converted to a fully automated system and will be operated permanently. Along with the existing Hapdeok base disinfection facility, two permanent base disinfection facilities can now operate 24 hours a day.
The city expects that the convenience for livestock vehicle drivers visiting livestock-related facilities will be improved, and that the effectiveness of preventing malignant livestock infectious diseases spread by vehicles will be greatly enhanced.
Jang Myunghwan, head of the Livestock Support Division, stated, "African Swine Fever started in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province, on the 13th and there have already been nine cases this year," adding, "There have also been nine cases of cattle lumpy skin disease nationwide since August."
He continued, "The risk of malignant livestock infectious diseases is higher than ever, with highly pathogenic AI virus being detected in wild birds more than a month earlier than last year," and emphasized, "We ask that all livestock-related vehicles entering the area be thoroughly disinfected at the base disinfection facilities."
