Driver Operating Unregistered Motorcycle
Clings to Police Officer and Flees Upon Being Caught
A driver who was caught driving an unregistered motorcycle without a license plate tried to escape by hanging onto a police officer but was apprehended at the scene.
On the 22nd, a video titled "Shocking! What’s hanging on the wobbling motorcycle" was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Korea National Police Agency.' In the released footage, two traffic police officers stopped by a gas station in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, to briefly use the restroom. While one officer went to the restroom, Officer A was waiting in front of the patrol car.
Meanwhile, Officer A witnessed a motorcycle running through a red light at the intersection in front of the gas station. The motorcycle stopped at the signal but had no license plate. Officer A immediately ran toward the motorcycle and grabbed the rider’s arm. At that moment, the rider realized he was dealing with a police officer and drove off while hanging onto the officer. After driving about 5 meters and attempting to turn right, the motorcycle eventually tipped over.
Officer A and a fellow officer who arrived shortly after moved the rider and the motorcycle to a safe place and arrested him. It was reported that the rider attempted to flee to avoid police enforcement while operating an unregistered motorcycle.
The rider was sent to the prosecution on charges of injuring a police officer and driving an unregistered motorcycle (obstruction of official duties and violation of the Motor Vehicle Management Act). Officer A reportedly sustained only minor abrasions without serious injury.
Netizens who saw the story responded with various comments such as, "Thank goodness the officer was not seriously injured," "It’s amazing how the officer noticed the motorcycle without a license plate even during a short break and apprehended the rider without hesitation," and "Glad the injuries were not severe."
