Promoting Disability Awareness and Community Coexistence for a Better World
Human Rights Film Screening at 6 PM... Enhancing Understanding of Disability and Ensuring Dignified Daily Life for All

Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) will hold the human rights festival “A World Without Barriers, Wheel the World,” where people with and without disabilities come together to enjoy, at Yeongdeungpo Park at 2 p.m. on the 25th.

Now in its 9th year, “Wheel the World” is a festival aimed at improving awareness of people with disabilities and promoting coexistence with the local community. The festival’s name combines the symbolism of the “wheel” from “wheelchair” and the idea of people with and without disabilities moving forward together toward a better world, fostering mutual understanding and harmony between them through the event.

To ensure that participating people with disabilities can enjoy the festival without inconvenience, guides will be stationed throughout the venue to assist those with mobility difficulties, and sign language interpretation services will be provided for the hearing impaired. Additionally, facilities such as restrooms exclusively for people with disabilities and wheelchair-accessible ramps are available.

The festival, starting at 2 p.m., will open with congratulatory performances by people with disabilities, local residents, and professional performance teams. Following this, over 40 booths will offer various crafts, quizzes, games, and exhibitions where people with and without disabilities and their families can participate together.

In addition to performances and experiential programs, various promotional booths supporting school-age children and adolescents with disabilities, as well as employment and independence for people with disabilities, will engage participants and contribute to raising awareness about disabilities.

Finally, at 6 p.m. on the main stage, a “Human Rights Film for People with Disabilities” will be screened. Through six short films ranging from cheerful family stories to daily life after deinstitutionalization, the festival aims to deepen understanding of disabilities and create an environment where people with and without disabilities can coexist.

Anyone can visit Yeongdeungpo Park on the day of the festival and enjoy the event.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “More consideration and support for people with disabilities in education, employment, culture, and sports is justice itself. I hope this festival will deepen interest and understanding of human rights for people with disabilities,” adding, “We will carefully work to create a brighter and more radiant world for people with disabilities, where everyone can enjoy a dignified daily life.”
