Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase
Jamie Dimon, chairman of JP Morgan, known as the "Emperor of Wall Street," is privately expressing clear support for Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a report by The New York Times (NYT) on the 22nd (local time). Although Dimon, a Democrat, has not publicly disclosed his preferred candidate for this presidential election, earlier this year he praised the policies of former Republican President Donald Trump, leading to speculation that he might have effectively shifted his support to Trump.
According to the NYT, Dimon told three colleagues that he supports Vice President Harris and is considering taking roles such as Treasury Secretary in a Harris administration if the Democrats win the election. Regarding former President Trump, he reportedly told colleagues that Trump's refusal to accept the 2020 election results remains a disqualifying factor.
In January, at the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland, Dimon made remarks that seemed to support former President Trump. At the time, he said, "Taking a step back, Trump was right on issues like NATO, immigration, and economic growth." He also said that Trump's China policy was "correct." Given that Dimon is known as a Democrat who has long supported the Democratic Party, his comments caused a significant stir.
In June, former President Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg News, "I am considering Jamie Dimon as the new Treasury Secretary." Earlier this month, Trump posted on his official social media account that Dimon supports him.
However, Dimon has publicly stated that he does not support anyone. Colleagues say that Dimon, a Democrat, has refrained from publicly revealing his political stance in this election due to concerns that Trump might retaliate if the Republicans win.
The NYT explained, "As former President Trump has increased threats of political retaliation in recent weeks, concerns have grown among executives of major U.S. corporations about publicly disclosing their political views."
During the U.S. presidential campaign, both parties' presidential camps have sought to secure the public support of Dimon, who holds significant influence on Wall Street.
