Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 22nd that the application period for the 'Opportunity Income Support Project for Farmers and Fishermen' will be extended until the 31st.
The 'Opportunity Income Support Project for Farmers and Fishermen' was established to respond to the risk of disappearance of rural farming and fishing communities and to provide compensation and opportunities to farmers and fishermen who contribute to creating social value. This project is separate from the basic income for farmers.
Specific farmers, including young farmers and fishermen under the age of 50, those who have returned to farming or fishing within the last 5 years, environmentally friendly agriculture and animal welfare farms, livestock happiness farms, and operators of premium seafood, will receive 150,000 KRW per month in local currency as opportunity income.
Applicants must have an address in Pocheon City at the time of application, have lived continuously for 2 years in Pocheon or for a total of 5 non-continuous years within Gyeonggi Province, and have farmed on farmland in Pocheon for at least 1 continuous year or on farmland within Gyeonggi Province for at least 3 continuous years.
Applications can only be made if registered as the head of an agricultural, fishery, or forestry management entity or as a farmer other than the head.
Those who have fraudulently received direct payments or whose comprehensive income outside of agriculture exceeds 37 million KRW are excluded from eligibility. If payments are received through fraudulent means, recovery measures will be taken and applications will be restricted for 5 years.
Applications can be submitted by visiting the administrative welfare center in the applicant’s resident registration area or online through the integrated support system for opportunity income for farmers and fishermen.
The city plans to select and review applicants and pay 450,000 KRW in Pocheon Love Gift Certificates for the three months from October to December by the end of December.
A Pocheon City official said, “The Opportunity Income Support Project for Farmers and Fishermen is a project being implemented for the first time this year to improve the quality of life of farmers and fishermen who are responding to the risk of disappearance of rural and agricultural communities. We have extended the application deadline to allow many farmers to receive support, so we ask for the active interest of farmers.”
