Come Enjoy an Autumn Walk in Namyangju
Namyangju City is witnessing the full bloom of yellow cosmos flowers at Bupyeong Ecological Wetland in Jinjeop-eup, where visitors can fully enjoy the autumn atmosphere. Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 22nd that the yellow cosmos flowers, which fully capture the autumn atmosphere, are in full bloom at Bupyeong Ecological Wetland in Jinjeop-eup.
Bupyeong Ecological Wetland is located at the edge of the Gwangneung Forest Biosphere Reserve, where Bongseonsa Stream and Wangsuk Stream converge. It is an ecological park inhabited by various flora and fauna. Currently, the scenery combining the small stream flowing through the center of the wetland and the fully bloomed yellow cosmos flowers is providing great enjoyment to visitors.
Visitors can observe the wetland up close and appreciate the natural scenery by walking along the deck road built alongside the small stream. In particular, it offers an eco-friendly ecological learning opportunity for children.
Bupyeong Ecological Wetland has experienced issues such as vegetation die-off, invasive species disruption, and water shortages due to past heavy rains and droughts. However, through continuous maintenance projects including ecosystem restoration work funded by the Ministry of Environment’s Ecosystem Conservation Charge Refund Project in 2022, inflow waterway improvement project (2023), and installation of flush toilets (2024), it now showcases even more beautiful natural landscapes.
Additionally, the city has created a lawn plaza in the space where withered willows once stood, serving as a meeting place for citizens. Stepping stones and connecting bridges crossing the wetland waterways have been installed to create a barrier-free walking course, allowing people with mobility challenges to conveniently use the park. As a result, an environment has been established where anyone can comfortably enjoy the park.
Kim Hak-cheol, Director of the Park and Greenery Management Office, stated, “We will continue to systematically manage river parks like Bupyeong Ecological Wetland to provide a healing space where all citizens can use it safely and comfortably.”
