Benchmarking AMP Know-How of Busan Port in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) announced on the 22nd that officials from Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, visited Busan Port to benchmark know-how related to the Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) system and discuss cooperation plans.

Nagasaki Prefecture is considering installing AMP at local ports to respond to global decarbonization regulations from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the European Union (EU), the United States, and others.

The visiting delegation showed great interest in the current status of AMP installation at Busan Port, as well as operational and management know-how, asking various questions and exchanging opinions about the overall operation of Busan Port.

AMP is a facility that supplies electricity from the land to ships docked at the pier during cargo handling operations, reducing air pollutant emissions by replacing the use of fossil fuels to run the ship's engines. Busan Port has been operating AMP for six years since its first installation in 2019.

Busan Port Authority shared the know-how accumulated through actual operations, such as introducing mobile connection cables for efficient AMP operation, with Nagasaki Prefecture officials and discussed future cooperation plans.

Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, “Our authority holds local briefings every year to attract transshipment cargo with Japan and has been building a network,” adding, “We will strive to strengthen cooperation with Japanese ports and promote mutual development through opportunities to share various know-how related to Busan Port operations.”
