From HBM to Packaging... Samsung and SK Compete in Technology at the 'Semiconductor Expo'

Held at COEX Seoul from 23rd to 25th
Semiconductor event with 280 companies and 700 booths

The 26th Semiconductor Exhibition (SEDEX 2024) will be held for three days from the 23rd to the 25th at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, under the theme of "Convergence of AI Semiconductors and Cutting-edge Packaging Technology."

The Korea Semiconductor Industry Association announced on the 22nd that this event will be held on a scale of 700 booths, with about 280 companies participating, including leading domestic semiconductor manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, as well as companies that make up the domestic semiconductor ecosystem in design, materials, components, and equipment.

The event will also feature a variety of lectures and seminars where attendees can grasp the latest technology trends at a glance. On the 24th, Lee Kang-wook, Vice President of SK Hynix (in charge of package development), will deliver a keynote speech on the topic of "The Role of Semiconductor Packaging in the AI Era." Park Kwang-sun, CEO of Applied Materials Korea, a semiconductor and display equipment company, will present on "The Future of the Semiconductor Industry: Energy-Efficient Computing and Accelerating Innovation."

On the opening day, the 23rd, a "Semiconductor Market Outlook Seminar" will be held to examine semiconductor technology and major countries' semiconductor policies. Additionally, on the 23rd and 24th, the "Semiconductor Industry-Academia-Research Exchange Workshop," hosted by the Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers, will cover topics such as AI semiconductors, the latest semiconductor design and foundry technologies, memory, and packaging technology trends. Various international events will also be held, including the "Semiconductor Environmental Safety Policy Seminar," the "Korea-Canada Semiconductor Innovation Forum," and the "International Conference on Advanced Semiconductor Packaging R&D."

On the 24th and 25th, a "Job Fair" for job seekers will take place. About 20 domestic semiconductor-related companies will participate, providing recruitment consultations and on-site interviews for approximately 250 graduates and prospective graduates. On the 24th, the 19th "Semiconductor Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony" will be held. Not only large companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix but also small and medium-sized enterprises will participate, awarding scholarships of 10 million KRW each to 19 students majoring in semiconductor-related science and engineering fields.

At the exhibition, Samsung Electronics will showcase memory and storage solutions leading the AI era, including the 5th generation High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) product HBM3E and the low-power DRAM 'LPDDR5X.' They will also exhibit advanced technologies such as the ISOCELL flagship image sensor and foundry AI turnkey solutions to strengthen their status as a comprehensive semiconductor company.

SK Hynix will present global top-tier products including next-generation AI memories such as HBM3E 12-stack, CMM-DDR5, and GDDR6-AiM, and will set up a special exhibition zone introducing the future vision of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster.

Domestic equipment companies such as Wonik IPS, PSK, Exicon, and Jusung Engineering will also participate. Major semiconductor material suppliers like Dongjin Semichem, FST, Mico, and KSM will operate exhibition booths. Local governments will also participate to promote semiconductor industry support policies, conducting talent academies and corporate investment environment briefings at the SEDEX Insight Zone.

Key companies in the AI semiconductor field, which has recently attracted attention, will showcase their technological capabilities. The country's largest fabless company LX Semicon, AI semiconductor company DeepX, semiconductor IP specialist Chips&Media, and memory semiconductor IP company Open Edge Technology will participate together. System semiconductor companies such as AD Technology, Sapien Semiconductor, and SolidView, selected as "Global Star Fabless Companies" by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, will also attend this event to present the vision for future semiconductor technology.

Kim Jeong-hoe, Vice Chairman of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, said, "This year's event will allow attendees to see the latest trends and technological developments across the semiconductor industry, including AI, cutting-edge packaging, and new memory technologies, all in one place."
