The ‘Goseong Scallop Seafood Festival,’ a representative food festival in Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam, will be held for three days from the 25th to the 27th at Nampo Port.
The ‘Goseong Scallop Seafood Festival,’ where visitors can eat, enjoy, feel, and fully savor plump scallops grown in clean waters designated by the US FDA, is set to welcome attendees at Nampo Port.
The ‘Goseong Scallop Seafood Festival,’ which attracts not only local residents but also tourists from all over the country, is celebrating its 8th year this year under the theme ‘Into the Five-Colored Autumn Leaves with Scallops.’
On the 25th, the opening ceremony will be held along with congratulatory performances by famous artists such as Lin, Kim Soyu, Shim Hyungrae, and Jiwon, while on the 26th, performances by Cyburger, trot prodigy Han Sujeong, Lee Hyeri, and Bae Jina will take place. On the 27th, local artists will perform.
Gu Eonhoe, chairman of the Goseong County Fisheries Cooperative, which organized the festival, said, “We have prepared a rich program for visitors, so please come in large numbers to fully enjoy the charm of Nampo Port and find vitality in your tired daily lives.”
County Governor Lee Sanggeun stated, “I hope visitors will taste the fresh, plump scallops from our Goseong-gun and create unforgettable memories by also visiting the Gyeongnam Goseong Dinosaur World Expo held at Danghangpo Tourist Site.” He added, “I hope this festival will help revitalize the local economy and support fishermen who have suffered significant damage due to high water temperatures.”
Scallops contain a large amount of potassium, which helps blood circulation and prevents high blood pressure. They are rich in iron and calcium, aiding children's growth and bone health, and have low calories, making them ideal for dieting.
Goseong-gun is the only region on the southern coast that earns the highest income from a single seafood product, scallops, accounting for about 70% of the national production. In particular, Jaranman Bay in Goseong has slow currents and water temperatures and nutrients suitable for scallop growth, making it ideal for scallop cultivation.
Additionally, as a US FDA-designated production area for export shellfish, water quality is strictly managed with regular hygiene inspections. Therefore, Goseong scallops produced in Jaranman Bay are evaluated as safe and pollution-free seafood.
