Kim Kwangseokgil in Bangcheon Market, Jung-gu Daegu, Wins "Local 100 Regional Culture Grand Prize"

Kim Kwangseok Again Street, a landmark representing Daegu, has been awarded the "Local 100, Regional Culture Grand Prize" by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Jung-gu District Office in Daegu (District Mayor Ryu Kyuha) announced that on October 18, during the 2024 Culture Month celebration held at Gwanghallu Garden in Namwon, North Jeolla Province, Kim Kwangseok Again Street was the only local attraction nationwide to receive the "Local 100 Regional Culture Grand Prize."

The "Local 100 (Top 100 Regional Cultural Attractions)" is a project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism that selects 100 representative tangible and intangible cultural assets across the country-such as cultural landmarks, content, and masters-to discover and promote the cultural appeal of local regions. The selected sites receive domestic and international marketing support. This year, in addition to Kim Kwangseok Again Street, Cheongju Culture Factory and Chuncheon Mime Festival were also chosen for the Regional Culture Grand Prize.

Kim Kwangseok Again Street is a mural alley themed around the life and music of the late Kim Kwangseok, created in 2009 as part of the Bangcheon Market Munjeonseongsi Project. It is located in the alleys near Bangcheon Market in Daebong-dong, where Kim Kwangseok once lived. Since then, the murals have been regularly renovated, and infrastructure such as the Kim Kwangseok Story House, an outdoor concert hall, and a public parking lot has been established. The area also offers a variety of content, including the Kim Kwangseokgil Cinema, Maemato cultural performances, Healing Concerts, and Kim Kwangseokgil busking performances.

Ryu Kyuha, Mayor of Jung-gu District in Daegu, stated, "Seeing the increasing number of tourists visiting Kim Kwangseokgil these days is further recognition of its unique appeal," adding, "We will continue to enhance the infrastructure and develop new content for Kim Kwangseokgil, striving to make it a leading tourist destination representing not only Daegu but all of Korea."
