A storm is sweeping across the UK, causing the cancellation of dozens of flights and blocking major roads due to heavy rain, resulting in severe damage. On the 20th (local time), the UK Daily Mail reported, "Storm Ashley is causing tremendous damage across the UK, including Scotland, Northern Ireland, North Wales, and Northwest England." Ashley is currently bringing gusts of up to 70 miles per hour (113 km/h) over the sea.

On this day, photos and videos of damage caused by the storm flooded social media. Among them, a video from a local weather news outlet showing the storm raging outside a window went viral. Netizens reacted with comments such as "So scary," "Is this the end of the world?" and "Wishing for everyone's safety."

As Ashley rushed toward the UK and Ireland, many flights were canceled at Belfast International Airport in Northern Ireland and Dublin Airport in Ireland. According to local media Sky News, one aircraft attempted to land but ultimately failed and had to divert. Due to the storm, cruise services in Scotland and Northern Ireland were also canceled, and train operations are expected to be affected.

Government authorities are issuing various coping methods and warnings to citizens. The UK Met Office has issued a life-threatening warning for Ashley, the first named storm of this autumn, and has also issued power outage threat warnings and additional yellow weather warnings in Northern Ireland and Northwest Scotland. The Welsh government has issued 3 flood warnings and 13 alerts, while the Scottish government has issued 16 flood warnings and 17 alerts.

Dan Stroud, a meteorologist at the UK Met Office, stated, "A very strong storm will occur along with high tides, which may cause massive waves." Scottish police warned road users to "plan ahead and avoid unnecessary travel if possible." Additionally, Northern Ireland's Department for Infrastructure announced, "Temporary flood defenses are being deployed along the River Lagan in high-risk areas south of Belfast."
