'Harry Potter' JK Rowling "Refused British Nobility Twice, Will Refuse Third Time Too"

British author Joanne K. (J.K.) Rowling, who wrote the 'Harry Potter' series, revealed that she has twice declined a noble title in the UK House of Lords and stated that she would refuse even if offered again.

On the 20th (local time), Rowling said on X (formerly Twitter), "I have already declined a noble title twice, once from the Labour Party and once from the Conservative Party," adding, "Even if a third offer comes, I still will not accept it."

The UK House of Lords, unlike the elected House of Commons, is composed of clergy and nobility. Life peers, distinguished from hereditary peers, are usually appointed by the monarch on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.

Rowling's statement comes in response to former Industry Minister Kemi Badenoch, a final candidate in the Conservative Party leadership race, expressing a desire to grant Rowling a noble title. In a recent interview with the media, former Minister Badenoch said that both she and Rowling share a belief in protecting women based on biological sex rather than gender identity as they identify it.

Rowling has previously expressed opposition to transgender individuals who identify as women, which has led to criticism accusing her of 'transphobia.'
