People Power Party Briefs on Meeting with President Yoon
Emphasizes Need for Bold Change and Reform
"Strengthening Cooperation on Livelihood Policies Amid High Inflation and Interest Rates"
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, directly proposed on the 21st that measures are needed to resolve issues related to First Lady Kim Keon-hee during his meeting with President Yoon Suk-yeol.
He also requested the prompt appointment of the vacant Special Inspector General position.
Han made these face-to-face proposals during his meeting with President Yoon at the Yongsan Presidential Office in the afternoon, Secretary Park Jeong-ha told reporters at the National Assembly.
Han directly proposed three demands he has made so far: personnel reform within the presidential office, suspension of the First Lady Kim’s external activities, and efforts to resolve suspicions surrounding her.
He also reportedly emphasized that public sentiment and opinion have recently worsened, and that bold changes and reforms are necessary accordingly.
He conveyed the opinion that the "ruling-opposition parliamentary consultative body" needs to be launched promptly.
Han said, "We support our government's reform policies and foreign and security policies, and the party will actively support them," but Secretary Park relayed that Han added, "To maintain the momentum for reform, it is necessary to proactively resolve burdensome issues in advance."
He also reportedly proposed strengthening cooperation between the party and government in livelihood policies such as high inflation and high interest rates.
Regarding a question about President Yoon’s response to Han’s requests, Secretary Park replied, "I was not present and only received the leader’s oral account, so I cannot answer," adding, "It is inappropriate to convey the president’s words."
