The vibrant lifelong learning festival for the residents of Taean, Chungnam, titled "2024 Taean-gun Lifelong Learning Our Grand Festival," was held in grand style at the Taean County Gymnasium on the 18th, with the participation of about 1,000 county residents.


The event was attended by county officials including County Governor Ga Se-ro, as well as representatives from the Taean County Women's Center, Taean County Family Center, Senior Welfare Center, Volunteer Center, Taean Office of Education, and various related organizations and local community centers from each town and township.


This festival, organized to wish for the development of lifelong learning in the Taean region and to share the achievements of participants, began with a spectacular opening performance featuring "Diet Belly Dance," a saxophone performance, and a celebratory show by the art play group "Sangsang Gureumpan." The opening ceremony included commendations and an encouraging speech from County Governor Ga Se-ro, as well as congratulatory remarks from distinguished guests.


During the following "Performance Stage," adult learners participating in accredited education programs shared their experiences, delivering a warm and touching moment. This was followed by poetry recitation, folk songs, charming dance, ukulele, harmonica, and gogo janggu performances, where lifelong learning students showcased their skills to enthusiastic applause from the audience.

In the "Experience Zone," 24 organizations including the Taean Village Lifelong Learning Research Association, Iwon, Taean County Welfare Center for the Disabled, Chungnam Digital Learning Center, Taean Literacy Teachers' Association, and Baekhwa Senior Welfare Center participated, offering a variety of programs such as making wish necklaces, decorating glass cups, tarot consultations, instant photo shoots, barista experiences, making worry dolls, face painting, and caricature drawing.


Additionally, the venue featured spaces for participants to enjoy various traditional games such as ttakjichigi (paper slap game), jegichagi (Korean hacky sack), gulleongsoe (hoop rolling), and nostalgic prize draws. There were also exhibitions of literary works by literacy class participants, as well as displays of crochet crafts, literary paintings, calligraphy, and other artworks, drawing much attention.


The county stated that this event was meaningful in boosting residents' enthusiasm for lifelong learning and uniting the community, and expressed its commitment to further strengthen the lifelong learning system to improve the quality of life for its residents.


A county official said, "We are doing our best to expand the foundation for a lifelong learning city and to establish a daily learning environment, aiming to enhance the capabilities of our residents and create a virtuous cycle of learning," adding, "We will continue our efforts to ensure Taean County becomes the best lifelong learning city in the country."
