The "2024 Dongducheon Youth Constellation Science Festival" was successfully held on the 19th at the Dongducheon City Sports Complex. Dongducheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyeong-deok) announced on the 21st that the "2024 Dongducheon Youth Constellation Science Festival," hosted by the city and organized by the social organization Eosuhoe, was successfully held on the 19th at the Dongducheon City Sports Complex.
Marking its 21st year, this event featured over 80 experience booths including a star observation program, drone experience, and a glider airplane flying competition.
In particular, this festival became a rich celebration with participation from the Dongducheon Fire Station, the 5th Armored 5077 Unit, and 12 schools.
Additionally, volunteer organizations such as the Dongducheon Model Drivers Association, the Autonomous Crime Prevention Union, the Volunteer Fire Brigade, and the Neonaduri Volunteer Group joined forces to strengthen community solidarity and brighten the festival as members of the local community.
The first part of the event began at 11 a.m. with various experience booths attracting the attention of youth. The science experience booths included star observation programs, drone experiences, and the glider airplane flying competition. At the same time, diverse experience programs were offered through the Dongducheon Fire Station’s mobile fire experience vehicle and the 5077 Unit’s tank boarding security experience center.
Following a lively atmosphere created by pre-event club performances, the second part of the commemorative event was held. The ceremony was attended by key guests including Mayor Park Hyeong-deok of Dongducheon, National Assembly member Kim Seong-won, Chairman Kim Seung-ho of the Dongducheon City Council, and Fire Chief Choi Moon-seok.
Special invited performances by singers Signature and Shin Haesol took place, and in the evening, fireworks and a constellation celestial observation program were held.
Lee Jin-sang, chairman of Eosuhoe and the event organizer, said, "We are grateful to the citizens who show interest and support for the Constellation Science Festival every year. In response, over the past few months, about 70 Eosuhoe members have worked hard to operate the event site and prevent safety accidents," adding, "The keywords for Eosuhoe are 'youth' and 'science,' so we will continue to dedicate ourselves to inspiring dreams and hopes about science among youth and providing opportunities to explore careers in the field of astronomy and space."
Mayor Park Hyeong-deok of Dongducheon said, "We ask for continued interest and support for the social organization Eosuhoe, which prepares various experience programs for youth," and added, "We hope that the experience of the Constellation Science Festival will lead to open interest among youth in astronomy and space fields, and we will continue to support young people aspiring to become the next generation of scientists to shoot their dreams high."
