Marine Corps Officer Visits and Leaves a Gift Behind
A restaurant owner who used to offer 'half-price discounts' to Marines and firefighters serving in the military reportedly received a 'surprise gift.' This story has touched netizens as it spread online.
On the 21st, a story from owner A, who runs a buckwheat noodle restaurant in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, was posted on several online communities. A shared a photo of the store and stated, "An officer from the 2nd Marine Division came and gave me a gift."
The photo he posted showed various military-related goods such as a Marine tumbler, cup, mood light, and keychains placed on a table. A explained, "An officer from the 2nd Division personally came and said, 'Thank you for taking good care of the troops,'" adding, "He left the gifts and went."
A said he usually provided food at half price to Marines and firefighters. He had previously posted, "Marines stormed in from early morning," and "Seeing these guys in the morning gives me strength."
Netizens who read A's story responded with comments like, "What a great officer," "What goes around comes around," and "Thank you for caring for those who work hard for the country," expressing their admiration.
Earlier, as the state of meals provided to firefighters became known, netizens' interest in the diets of soldiers and firefighters increased. In June, Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea, visited Hwaseong Fire Station in Gyeonggi Province on the tvN variety show 'Baekpacker 2.' At that time, Baek expressed regret after seeing the meal plan, saying, "Considering their activity level, it's too poor."

During the broadcast, a nutritionist appealed, "(Firefighters' meals) are fixed at 4,000 won per meal," adding, "There is no additional support funding." In reality, the meal cost varies by region because the ordinances supporting meal budgets differ by city and province.
Amid growing controversy, the Fire Agency reportedly held a central-provincial fire policy coordination meeting the day before to discuss the current status of meal support and improvement plans. In particular, the Fire Agency plans to clarify the per-person meal cost and drinking water standards for field personnel to ensure sufficient funding for labor and food material costs.
