Seoul Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 21st that it will support up to 2 million KRW per complex for electric vehicle fire suppression equipment in apartment complexes to prepare for fires and prevent residents' safety.
Eunpyeong-gu is implementing this measure to prevent loss of life and property and to alleviate social anxiety amid the recent increase in demand for electric vehicles and growing conflicts regarding electric vehicle fires. The initiative particularly aims for rapid initial response, containment of fire spread, and psychological stability and protection of residents in case of fire.
The district supports the purchase of fire suppression equipment suitable for apartment complexes, such as ▲smothering fire blankets ▲fire extinguishers ▲upward water spray devices, with up to 2 million KRW per complex (50% self-payment rate). The support targets apartment complexes with 20 or more households and electric vehicle charging facilities installed. Applications can be made before purchasing the supported items. Complexes wishing to apply should visit the Housing Division of the district office with the required documents by the 25th or apply by mail.
District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, “We are devising various measures to reduce residents' anxiety about electric vehicles, including electric vehicle fire accidents in apartment complexes. Our goal is to establish a system that can suppress fires before they spread, and we prioritize residents' safety by collaborating with the fire station to form an electric vehicle fire response TF team.”
