The K-Girls Day event is a program benchmarked from the 'Girls' Future Day (M?dchen-Zukunftstag)' event, which first started in Germany in 2001 to encourage female students to pursue studies and careers in science and engineering industries. In South Korea, it has been held annually since 2014 as a technology experience event to support middle and high school students’ advancement into science and engineering fields and entry into industrial workplaces, aiming to resolve the gender imbalance in engineering personnel.

Marking its 11th year this year, the K-Girls Day event was held at Samjin Pharmaceutical’s Magok Research Center (with a total floor area of 13,340㎡, spanning from 4 basement floors to 8 above-ground floors), established in December 2021 with the goal of ‘leaping forward as a global pharmaceutical company through innovative new drug development.’ The Magok Research Center provides a researcher-friendly and comfortable environment and is equipped to independently carry out the entire process from the early stages of new drug development to clinical trials and approval.

This experience event proceeded with an introduction to Samjin Pharmaceutical’s future vision, new drug development, and role within the pharmaceutical industry, followed by a tour of the research center. Participants also engaged in the research processes conducted in each laboratory, allowing them to experience and understand the specific procedures of new drug research and development (R&D). Additionally, a communication program titled ‘Conversation with Female Researchers’ was organized based on pre-submitted questions from the participants, covering detailed and practical topics such as ▲the academic knowledge and practical skills required in the pharmaceutical industry ▲experiences and challenges faced as women in the pharmaceutical sector ▲and inquiries about real cases in research settings, which received enthusiastic responses.

In particular, Busse Denise, a principal researcher born in Germany and a member of the Research Planning Office at the Magok Research Center, who was appointed as a mentor for this K-Girls Day program, fully shared her career exploration process and experiences from the Girls' Future Day event she personally participated in Germany, as well as her various job experiences as a female researcher, providing valuable motivation to the participants.

A representative from Samjin Pharmaceutical stated, "This event provided the participating youth with a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry as well as an opportunity to experience various research roles, making it a meaningful time. We will continue to provide ongoing support so that female talents in science and engineering fields can play a greater role, faithfully fulfilling our corporate social responsibility."
