Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will hold the ‘Autumn and Winter of the Lake and Luminarie Festival (hereafter Luminarie Festival)’ around Seokchon Lake from October 25 this year to February 28 next year.

‘Luminarie’ is a light festival that creates architectural or sculptural works using light bulbs. The district started this festival in 2022 to provide visual attractions to residents and visitors during the autumn and winter seasons when cultural and artistic events decrease. Last year, it was greatly loved, attracting 240,000 visitors just on the opening weekend.

This year’s theme is ‘Dream, Universe & Love.’ About 50,000 lights will create a dreamy and mysterious atmosphere that harmonizes with the autumn nights, using the lake as a backdrop.

The festival can be enjoyed in various ways including ▲light sculptures and landscape lighting ▲diverse cultural events ▲unique experiences.

First, from 5:30 PM on the 25th, the entrance to the East Lake of Seokchon Lake will welcome visitors with a large luminarie symbolizing the festival and a luminarie tunnel filled with dense lights. On the decks at three locations along Seokchon Lake (two at East Lake and one at West Lake), photo zones creatively expressing the festival themes of dream, universe, and love can be found.

Additionally, the mysterious Aurora Laser Road resembling a descending aurora, the Gobolight Path connecting 12 constellations spread across the universe, and firefly lights fill the walking paths with diverse lights, adding to the fun.

This year, the ‘Lake I Decorate’ contest will be held, and the winning works will be revealed at the festival. Among 1,254 submissions, 50 messages of encouragement and love such as ‘Even if slow, if you keep going like now, it’s enough’ and ‘Suddenly, I will be here whenever you come’ were selected. These will be displayed on LED cube lights at the East Lake Starlight Rest Area during the festival.

From the 25th to the 27th, visitors can enjoy a variety of cultural events and experiences. The opening ceremony at 6:30 PM on the 25th will feature performances by the jazz trio ‘Gold Sisters’ and the male four-member popera group ‘Phantom Friends,’ followed by fireworks that will beautifully light up the night sky over Seokchon Lake.

On the weekend of the 26th and 27th, visitors can enjoy busking by local young artists, bubble & balloon shows, and magic shows. Especially at 4:50 PM on the 26th at the East Lake entrance, a joint performance by Songpa-gu’s characters ‘Haha’ and ‘Hoho’ and the ‘Lotte World Women’s Marching Band’ will offer a unique experience.

During the three days of the opening weekend, the area around East Lake of Seokchon Lake will have experience booths for children such as making glow bracelets and neon face painting, as well as flea markets and food trucks.

In particular, the district will continue various performance stages every weekend until November 24. This stage is planned so that more visitors can enjoy the festival for a longer time. For five weeks, on Saturdays and Sundays from 5 PM to 7 PM, visitors can enjoy cultural performances such as magic shows and fusion gugak (traditional Korean music), as well as flea markets featuring local artisans and workshops.

District Mayor Seo Gang-seok said, “The Songpa-gu Luminarie Festival is Seoul’s only light festival set against the lake backdrop,” and added, “We hope you come to Songpa-gu this coming weekend to create joyful and happy memories through the mysterious experiences offered by the dazzling lights.”
