Ukraine Launches Drone Attacks on Moscow and Others
The Russian military launched missile strikes across various parts of Ukraine, while Ukraine sent a large-scale drone attack on Russian mainland.
According to local foreign media reports on the 20th, the Russian military conducted airstrikes overnight on the 19th-20th (local time) targeting Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, as well as western Lviv and southeastern Kryvyi Rih.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Interior reported that 17 people, including one rescue worker, were injured in Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Two Russian ballistic missiles struck Kryvyi Rih City Hall, residential buildings, vehicles, and commercial facilities. The Ministry of Interior posted photos of rescue workers attending to the injured on X (formerly Twitter).
Drone attacks by Russian forces continued across Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force announced that it shot down 31 out of 49 drones launched by Russian forces overnight, while 2 drones crossed into neighboring Belarus. Air raid alarms were issued twice in Kyiv, and western Lviv was also targeted by drone attacks, but no damage was reported by dawn.
Conversely, Russia reported that Ukraine carried out a large-scale drone attack on Russian mainland, including Moscow. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated in a press release that it shot down 110 Ukrainian drones overnight targeting seven regions, including the capital Moscow and Kursk near the western border.
Among the downed drones, 8 targeted the explosives manufacturing plant of the state-owned company Sverdlov in Nizhny Novgorod, northwestern Russia, the Ministry of Defense explained. Sverdlov is a company listed on Western countries’ sanctions against Russia.
Gleb Nikitin, governor of the region, said via a Telegram message that "four firefighters who tried to prevent a factory fire were slightly injured by drone debris." Sergey Sobyanin, mayor of Moscow, reported that "drone debris fell in areas such as Ramensky district in Moscow, but there were no casualties."
On the same day, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that it inflicted 1,805 personnel losses on Ukraine during clashes in eastern Donetsk and northeastern Kharkiv the previous day.
