"South Korean Soldiers Will Be Beheaded"... Ukrainian Netizen Issues Misguided Threat Amid North Korean Troop Deployment Reports

Corrected After Being Told "South Korea and North Korea Are Different"
But the Original Poster Still Remains Online

As evidence continues to emerge suggesting that North Korea has deployed troops to Russia, which is at war with Ukraine, a Ukrainian netizen posted a propaganda poster threatening to "behead South Korean soldiers" after confusing South Korea with North Korea.

"South Korean Soldiers Will Be Beheaded"... Ukrainian Netizen Issues Misguided Threat Amid North Korean Troop Deployment Reports An Ukrainian netizen, angered by news of North Korea's troop deployment to Russia, mistakenly confused South Korea with North Korea and created an incorrect propaganda poster (left), which was posted on X (formerly Twitter). After other users repeatedly pointed out that "South Korea and North Korea are different," the netizen re-uploaded the poster (right) correcting South Korea to North Korea. On the 19th, the X (formerly Twitter) account "Ukrainian Offensive" (@ukrnastup), which shares various memes supporting a Ukrainian victory, posted a propaganda poster with the Korean phrase, "South Korean soldier, we will behead you." The poster depicted a soldier in a North Korean military uniform pointing to a map marked with Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, while a soldier wearing the Ukrainian flag held a weapon to the North Korean soldier's neck. The Ukrainian soldier's face was obscured by goggles and a mask, but the North Korean soldier appeared to be bleeding and looked terrified. On the left side, the poster included Korean text reading, "You will die here. We will not listen to you. You will not be saved."

This appears to have been created to criticize North Korea's deployment of troops to Russia, which has become an established fact as our National Intelligence Service has confirmed it, and as signs of North Korean involvement in the war continue to be observed. The user who posted the poster seemingly intended to warn North Korea, but appears to have confused North Korea with South Korea.

Other users explained, "South Korea and North Korea are different," and "Korea refers to South Korea," but the account holder threatened, "If they (South Korea) do not provide ammunition and vehicles, they will be next (to be beheaded)." However, when another user pointed out, "The situation in South Korea is much more complicated than in other countries. South Korea has refrained from providing lethal weapons to Ukraine out of concern that Russia would transfer technology and advanced weaponry to North Korea. Moreover, South Korea has already assisted Ukraine with non-lethal aid. You should not make demands as if South Korea owes Ukraine," the account holder eventually reposted the corrected poster with the phrase, "North Korean soldier, we will behead you." However, the original poster with the phrase "South Korean soldier, we will behead you" still remains on the account.

Meanwhile, the Strategic Communications and Information Security Center (SPRAVDI) under the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture released a video showing North Korean soldiers preparing for deployment to Ukraine at a location believed to be the Sergievsky training ground in Primorsky Krai. The explanation was that North Korean soldiers are preparing for deployment to Ukraine at the Sergievsky training ground in Primorsky Krai. The 27-second video shows East Asian soldiers standing in line and receiving various supplies from a Western soldier. During the video, voices with a North Korean accent can be heard saying, "Don't cross over," and "Come out, hey." However, it has not been objectively verified whether the video actually shows North Korean soldiers training in Russia.

Additionally, CNN reported that, through SPRAVDI, it had obtained a questionnaire containing Korean phrases used in North Korea, such as "Please fill out the cap size (circumference), uniform/military uniform size, and shoe documents," "Russian-style uniform size," and "Joseon-style size." The National Intelligence Service also obtained and released a photo of an East Asian individual in Russian military uniform, active on the front lines in Ukraine and Russia. According to the National Intelligence Service, after applying AI facial recognition technology, it was concluded that this individual is essentially the same person as the North Korean missile technician who accompanied North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jongun on a visit to a tactical missile production plant on August 28 of last year.
