Park Jung-moo, head of Nexon FC Group, said at the press conference for the '2024 Nexon ICON Match' held at Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 19th, "The ICON Match is the largest-scale content collaboration we have done with real football so far."
The '2024 Nexon ICON Match' is a major football event where world-renowned football 'icons' play a special match in Korea, taking place over the 19th and 20th at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Park said, "'FC Online' is a game that cannot be separated from real football," adding, "Over the past few years, we have held various events linked to youth football and the K-League, and I believe it is very important to maintain a strong connection between the game and real football."
Regarding the possibility of holding the ICON Match again, Park said, "The recruitment process was easier than expected, but I cannot confirm whether we will continue to hold ICON Matches of this scale in the future," adding, "There were many twists and turns, and even a minor issue almost made it impossible to proceed."
He said, "It is impossible to accurately estimate the exact impact of this event on game revenue in numbers," and added, "Rather than focusing on financial effects, I hope it leaves good memories for the users."
On the first day of the ICON Match, participating players competed in an 'event match' consisting of mini-games such as 1-on-1 duels and shooting challenges. On the 20th, the main match will be held between the striker team 'FC Sphere' and the defender team 'Shield United.' FC Sphere is led by Thierry Henry, and Shield United is captained by Fabio Cannavaro.
Henry said, "Normally, I have a strong competitive spirit, but this time, my goal is to spend good time with the players and friends I meet here again, and I believe that is the real victory."
Cannavaro also said, "More important than which team wins is that donations are planned under the name of the winning team, so bringing joy to many people through football is the most important thing," adding, "The biggest goal is for fans to enjoy themselves and go home smiling."
