Kukim and Minju on 'Kim Yeo-sa Condemnation Outdoor Rally': "Candlelight Can't Protect Lee Jae-myung"

"Plaza Politics Ahead of November Verdict"
"No Citizens Will Support Incitement"

On the 19th, the People Power Party criticized the Democratic Party of Korea's announcement of an outdoor rally condemning the prosecution's decision not to indict regarding First Lady Kim Geon-hee's alleged involvement in the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case, stating, "You cannot protect Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung with candlelight."

Park Joon-tae, the party's floor spokesperson, said in a statement that "Even if the Democratic Party goes out to the square again and raises candlelight, there will be no citizens who will sympathize with the agitation for leader Lee Jae-myung."

Park added, "Leader Lee pulled out the card of square politics out of fear ahead of the November verdict, but wise citizens will no longer be swayed by the Democratic Party's irresponsible agitation," emphasizing, "If the Democratic Party raises candlelight, the people will raise torches to stand against the Democratic Party's destruction of the constitution and attempts to obstruct justice."

He said, "The place where Lee Jae-myung should claim his innocence is not the square but the courtroom," adding, "Using the National Assembly like a personal law firm to turn it into a shield and then going out to the square to raise candlelight will not erase the crimes already committed."

Earlier, the Democratic Party announced a large-scale public opinion campaign demanding a special prosecution through outdoor protests following the national audit after the prosecution decided not to indict First Lady Kim.

About 40 Democratic Party lawmakers said at a press conference the day before, "Starting with the 'National Rally to Condemn Kim Geon-hee' on the 2nd of next month, we will show the angry public sentiment against the Kim Geon-hee regime," adding, "As the opposition party, what we can do is propose laws and appeal to the people, and the last resort is outdoor protests."
