Railway Stops Upon Foreign Object Detection
No Actual Foreign Object Found... Service Resumes Afterwards
A roller coaster with a maximum height of 38m stopped for 5 minutes while carrying passengers.
On the 18th, at around 11:10 a.m., the 'Roller Coaster Giant Digger' suddenly stopped during operation at a theme park in Gijang-gun, Busan. This roller coaster is an amusement ride that runs on a 1 km track at a maximum height of 38m and a top speed of 105 km/h. It was reported that passengers were trembling with anxiety as the ride stopped for about 5 minutes while they were still on board. Fortunately, the section where the roller coaster stopped was a flat area, not an inclined slope.
The theme park explained that the safety device was triggered by detecting a foreign object on the rail, causing the operation to stop automatically. However, no other substances were actually found on the rail.
A theme park official said, "Amusement rides like roller coasters have very sensitive safety devices because any problem in the operation section can lead to a major accident," adding, "After confirming safety, the ride resumed operation and passengers disembarked normally at the platform." The theme park stated that it is investigating the exact cause of the incident.
