Kim Seong-jung, the First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, is inspecting the response situation related to the distribution of leaflets to North Korea on the 18th.
Kim Seong-jung, the First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, visited the area near the Imjingak Mangbaedan on the 18th to inspect the response situation regarding the distribution of anti-North Korea leaflets. This was in response to the announcement of leaflet distribution in Paju, ignoring the designation of danger zones in areas of concern by the Families of Abductees Association in Gyeonggi Province.
Currently, Gyeonggi Province has formed a special investigation team consisting of 50 investigators from the Gyeonggi Provincial Special Judicial Police. They are cooperating with the police and local government officials to conduct 24-hour patrols in the three cities and counties of Yeoncheon County, Paju City, and Gimpo City, where the distribution of anti-North Korea leaflets is expected.
Earlier, on the 15th, Gyeonggi Province designated these three areas as danger zones under the Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety to prevent the distribution of such leaflets that threaten the lives and safety of residents.
The special investigation team will confiscate any materials found during leaflet distribution activities, verify personal information, and transfer cases to the prosecution after investigation. Additionally, they plan to crack down on the preparation and transportation of materials related to the leaflets.
Deputy Governor Kim Seong-jung stated, "We will implement all possible measures to protect the lives and safety of our residents," and emphasized, "Citizen reports are crucial for initial on-site response. Residents who witness leaflet distribution activities are urged to report them via 112."
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province explained that the designation of danger zones only prohibits the distribution of anti-North Korea leaflets and does not impose any restrictions on residents' daily activities such as passage.
