Yangju City Holds '21st Anniversary City Promotion Commemorative Tree Planting Event'
Yang Su-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, is holding a 'Commemorative Tree Planting Ceremony' in front of the government building lawn plaza on the 18th to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the city's promotion. Gyeonggi Yangju City, rapidly advancing as the "Central City of Northern Gyeonggi" under the slogan "Leaping Forward with Citizens," has taken another step toward the next 100 years.
Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced that on the afternoon of the 18th, it held a "Commemorative Tree Planting Ceremony" in front of the government building's lawn plaza to celebrate the 21st anniversary of its city status.
The event was attended by 11 people, including Mayor Kang Su-hyun, Vice Mayor Kim Jeong-min, and heads of various departments and offices.
The "21st Anniversary Commemorative Tree" planted that day was a variety of pine tree called "Bansong," an evergreen coniferous tree, donated by Lee Bok-seon, former head of Majeon 1-dong in Yangju City.
Additionally, the pine tree, designated as the "City Tree of Yangju," symbolizes the resilience and progressive spirit of Yangju citizens, as it remains evergreen, withstands cold well, and has strong vitality.
Since its elevation to city status in 2003, Yangju has achieved remarkable development in various fields such as education, economy, culture, and transportation.
In particular, over the past two years, it has shown remarkable progress with projects including ▲ the commencement of Eun-nam General Industrial Complex ▲ the start of Yangju Technovalley ▲ the beginning of Yangju Station area development ▲ confirmation of the site for the comprehensive funeral facility ▲ approval of the GTX-C line by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport ▲ passage of the Seoul-Yangju highway through the Ministry of Economy and Finance ▲ selection as a pilot area for the education special zone ▲ operation of the first metropolitan bus in the western region ▲ and selection of the site for the innovative public medical center in northeastern Gyeonggi.
Moreover, following last year's nationwide first place in population growth rate, Yangju was the only city or county in northern Gyeonggi to be among the 10 basic local governments that saw an increase in births compared to five years ago, further proving its status as a "livable city."
Mayor Kang Su-hyun expressed, "I would like to extend my deep gratitude to former Majeon 1-dong head Lee Bok-seon for donating the commemorative tree," and reflected, "Over the 21 years, Yangju has achieved significant development thanks to the support and cooperation of our citizens."
He added, "We will continue to do our best for a better future of Yangju where everyone can participate together."
