Gyeonggi-do Forms Special Investigation Team for 24-Hour Patrols in Paju, Gimpo, and Yeoncheon

Gyeonggi Province has currently formed a special investigation team consisting of 50 investigators from the Gyeonggi Provincial Special Judicial Police. They are conducting 24-hour on-site patrols in cooperation with the police and local government officials in Yeoncheon County, Paju City, and Gimpo City?three cities/counties where the distribution of anti-North Korea leaflets is expected. This measure was taken following the announcement by the Families of Abductees that they plan to distribute leaflets in Paju despite the recent designation of danger zones.
Earlier, on the 15th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it would designate Paju City, Gimpo City, and Yeoncheon County as danger zones under the Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety to prevent the distribution of such leaflets that threaten the lives and safety of residents.
The special investigation team will confiscate any materials found during leaflet distribution activities, verify personal information, and refer cases to the prosecution after investigation. Additionally, they plan to crack down on the preparation and transportation of materials related to the leaflets.
Deputy Governor Kim Seong-jung stated, “We will implement all possible measures to protect the lives and safety of our residents,” and added, “Citizen reports are the most important for initial on-site response. Residents who witness the distribution of anti-North Korea leaflets are urged to report it via 112.”
Meanwhile, the province explained that the designation of danger zones only prohibits the distribution of anti-North Korea leaflets and does not impose any restrictions on residents’ daily activities such as commuting.
