Myung Tae-gyun, who caused a stir by revealing messages sent by First Lady Kim Keon-hee, has changed his stance, stating that the "oppa" mentioned in the messages is indeed Kim's biological older brother. Previously, Myung hinted that "our oppa" referred to President Yoon Seok-yeol, but he explained that this was "an attempt to fool the media."
According to an MBC report on the 18th, Myung said that the "our oppa" mentioned in the KakaoTalk conversation is Kim Keon-hee's biological older brother, Kim Jin-woo. Myung explained, "At the time, I agreed to talk with reporters on the condition that no articles would be written, but as reports kept coming out, I joked that 'oppa' referred to the 'president' rather than the 'biological older brother' to mess with them."
Myung first met Kim Jin-woo, Kim Keon-hee's biological older brother, in July 2021, and explained, "While talking with Mrs. Kim, (Kim Jin-woo) briefly came and went." Regarding the message from Kim Keon-hee on the messenger asking to "forgive oppa," he explained, "It seems that Kim Jin-woo was not very warm toward me."
He added, "Maybe oppa was not warm, so I felt bad (and sent the message asking for forgiveness)," and continued, "The First Lady is very considerate and a really good person. She is so affectionate that it causes problems."
The opposition party argued that even if "our oppa" is indeed Kim Keon-hee's biological older brother as Myung explained, this also constitutes state power abuse. Myung responded, "Why would I talk about politics with that person? He is not a politician. I have never discussed politics with him."
Democratic Party Launches Off-Site Protest on November 2 Over Kim Keon-hee Allegations and 'Prosecutor's Non-Indictment'
The Democratic Party of Korea has launched an off-site protest to pressure clarifications on various allegations related to the First Lady. Starting November 2, they will begin off-site protests against the prosecution's non-indictment decision regarding suspicions of stock manipulation involving Deutsche Motors. They also plan to push for impeachment proceedings against Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung, Seoul Central District Prosecutor Lee Chang-soo, and Central District Deputy Chief Prosecutor Choi Jae-hoon.
Democratic Party lawmakers held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Hall, stating, "On behalf of the people, we will impeach the accomplices who concealed Kim Keon-hee's crimes," and criticized, "Kim Keon-hee has become a de facto president enjoying immunity from prosecution, and the prosecution has become a dog that bites when she says bite and lets go when she says let go."
The Democratic Party emphasized, "The impunity granted to Kim Keon-hee will only serve as a catalyst for a stronger special prosecutor investigation," and added, "Since it has been confirmed that the prosecution not only lacks the will to investigate but is also an accomplice, the Democratic Party will uncover the substantive truth through the 'Kim Keon-hee Special Prosecutor,' a permanent special prosecutor, and the National Assembly audit."
They also declared their determination for off-site protests, saying, "Starting with the 'Kim Keon-hee Condemnation National Rally' on November 2, we will show the angry public sentiment against the Kim Keon-hee regime. We will prepare long padded jackets."
