A handwritten letter of thanks has been delivered to the police officer who found a lost bag at the festival, creating a heartwarming scene.
According to Yonhap News on the 18th, last month on the 29th, Ms. A visited the Daejeon Bread Festival with her husband. Ms. A briefly placed her bag on the street and left without it. She realized this within 5 minutes and immediately returned to the scene, but the bag was already gone. Heartbroken, Ms. A thought she would never find the bag. Since it was lost at the festival, she also believed it would be difficult to identify the suspect, so she reported the theft to the police station without high expectations.
However, Detective Kim Ji-yong of the Daejeon Jungbu Police Station, who received the case, focused on investigating the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. Detective Kim captured footage of a man in his 20s, Mr. B, running away with the bag right after Ms. A left it behind, and after tracking his movements, he arrested Mr. B on the 8th. Detective Kim recovered the bag and booked Mr. B on theft charges, and the bag was returned intact to its owner, Ms. A.
Afterward, the police station received a densely handwritten letter of thanks. This letter was written by Ms. A to Detective Kim, expressing, "Thank you for finding my bag. If there were more people like you, Detective, South Korea would truly become a beautiful country."
Detective Kim said, "I was deeply moved by the excessive praise and encouragement for something I did as a matter of course," adding, "Receiving a carefully written handwritten letter just before Police Day made me feel a great sense of fulfillment once again."
