Hatakeyong Holds Meeting to Mark 50 Days Since Appointment as Head of Insurance Training Institute
Ha Tae-kyung, President of the Korea Insurance Development Institute, announced on the 18th that he will lead the advancement of insurance and finance focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and globalization.
On the same day, Ha held a press conference at a Chinese restaurant in Yeouido, Seoul, stating, "The keywords for my three-year term as president are AI and global," and added, "We will actively promote educational projects utilizing AI and establish cooperative systems such as AI insurance and finance forums between Korea and Japan, and Korea and China." Ha, a three-term former member of the National Assembly, assumed office as the 19th president of the Korea Insurance Development Institute earlier last month.
Ha emphasized, "We are now in the AI era," and said, "The emergence of generative AI is expanding the scope of AI applications and raising societal expectations for the launch of new products and services." He plans to advance the institute’s AI projects through educational initiatives and large-scale language model (LLM) projects.

The institute’s AI educational projects will include AI insurance job training, AI literacy education, and AI new finance education. AI insurance job training will provide AI utilization education tailored to job roles along the insurance value chain, AI ethics education, and specialized AI training for insurance sales agents. AI literacy education aims to enhance AI utilization capabilities among the general public, offering education to diverse groups including North Korean defectors. AI new finance education will develop the economic education programs for elementary and middle school students that the institute has conducted so far.
Ha also mentioned plans to create a platform for a ‘Reliable Insurance Agent Recommendation Service.’ He said, "We will develop a platform service based on refined data and AI to help insurance consumers easily find suitable insurance agents," adding, "This will contribute to reducing incomplete sales and increasing consumer satisfaction with their experience, thereby enhancing consumer trust."
Regarding global projects, Ha plans to expand exchanges with Japan and China. He explained, "During the Kim Dae-jung administration’s promotion of Korea-Japan cultural openness, there were significant concerns about cultural domination by Japan, but the capabilities and resilience of our people were strong, and in reality, Korea became a driving force dominating the global cultural business," and added, "I believe the same applies to finance." He continued, "Japan operates its insurance industry in a manner similar to ours, and China is a major Asian market with very rapid AI development," stating, "Going forward, the Korea Insurance Development Institute will serve as a bridge to the insurance and financial markets of Japan and China, creating an opportunity for Korea’s insurance and finance sectors to leap onto the global stage."
Ha further stated, "We plan to first hold the ‘Korea-Japan AI Asset Management Forum’ and the ‘Korea-China AI Insurance Forum,’" and said, "Through these, we will establish the development direction of AI finance in Korea and formulate development plans for building a future financial ecosystem by fostering cooperation between national financial industries and among various sectors of the domestic financial industry."
