Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is promoting the "Urban Planning Innovation Strategy Establishment Project for the Great Transformation of Dongdaemun-gu" to leap forward as a future city.

Dongdaemun-gu has been the center of northeastern metropolitan transportation for the past 100 years, but due to urban aging and uneven development, issues such as weakening urban functions, aging buildings, population aging, and lack of infrastructure have been raised.

To address these issues, Dongdaemun-gu is proactively responding to urban structural changes such as ▲selection of candidate sites for spatial innovation zones around Cheongnyangni Station ▲railroad undergrounding ▲establishment (planned) of GTX and Myeonmok Line ▲development of a new town in the northeastern area, and is promoting this project to innovate urban space through regulatory innovation and three-dimensional complex development.

This project will establish detailed strategies targeting four zones excluding the Jangan area, where a comprehensive development plan has already been established.

An initiation briefing session for the project was held on October 8, and opinions gathered at the session will be reviewed internally and reflected in the project implementation process.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, emphasized at the briefing, "A new direction is necessary for Dongdaemun-gu to advance as a future city," adding, "Through establishing an innovation strategy centered on Cheongnyangni Station, we must realize the infinite development potential of Dongdaemun-gu."

Dongdaemun-gu plans to concretize realistic and feasible development plans through expert advisory meetings and other means in the future.
