Japanese Man with 4 Wives and 2 Girlfriends
Living Off Money Earned by Wives and Girlfriends
"I Want to Make History by Having 54 Children"
"Still Looking for a New Wife"
A Japanese man with four wives and two girlfriends has revealed his goal of "having 54 children and making history."
On the 17th (local time), Hong Kong media outlet South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported the story of Ryuta Watanabe (36) from Hokkaido, who has multiple wives and girlfriends despite polygamy being illegal in Japan.
According to the media, Watanabe currently lives with four wives and two girlfriends and has 10 children among them. Although he has four wives, he is currently separated from one of them. The wives are in common-law relationships, living together long-term without official registration and sharing joint responsibilities.
It is known that all living expenses are covered by the wives and girlfriends, as Watanabe has been unemployed for the past 10 years. The wives and girlfriends pay over 8.2 million won monthly in living costs on his behalf. In return, Watanabe takes charge of various household chores such as cooking and childcare.
Regarding why he practices polygamy, Watanabe explained, "About six years ago, I suffered from depression. I was a welfare recipient, and the 18-year-old girlfriend I was dating at the time broke up with me because she wanted a man earning over 40 million yen (approximately 362 million won) annually." He added, "That experience led me to meet various women through dating apps, and at one point, I was seeing up to 16 girlfriends." He further explained, "Most of the women I met left, and the ones who remained are my current wives."
"Having marital relations more than 28 times a week... goal of 54 children"
Watanabe said that his cohabiting wives live in separate rooms and that he rotates sleeping with them daily. He also stated that they have marital relations more than 28 times a week, but the wives do not get jealous of each other and instead get along like friends. He said, "My parents divorced when I was young, and I lived with my mother, so I have memories of loneliness from that time," adding, "I plan to bring three more wives into the home and have 54 children to make history."
Netizens who heard the news reacted with various comments such as, "It's illegal, so how can he be so confident?" "Are they all a bit crazy?" "It's scary to think my child might marry a man like that," "Both men and women seem to have many psychological deficiencies," "It must be confusing to keep track of who is who," "If the women get along well, I have nothing to say," and "There are really many strange people."
