"Incorrect Hanbok Information Must Be Corrected and Communicated Quickly"
A controversy has arisen after it was revealed that the Australian War Memorial in Canberra displayed Chinese-style clothing alongside the Taegeukgi, introducing it as traditional Korean attire.
On the 17th, Professor Seokyeongdeok of Sungshin Women's University posted related photos on his social media, stating that he learned of this fact from a netizen who visited the Australian War Memorial in person.
Professor Seo said, "According to experts on Hanbok, the clothing in question was found to be Chinese-style," and added, "Since this is Australia's most important national memorial and a place frequently visited by international tourists, such an error should not be overlooked, so I immediately sent a protest email."
The email included complaints that the cutting method of the collar and sleeves, the color combination, and the embroidery were not traditional Korean styles but Chinese-style clothing. It also emphasized that traditional Korean clothing is Hanbok and requested corrections to prevent misunderstandings among Australian and international visitors.
Professor Seo stressed, "China is also making unfounded claims that Hanbok is part of their culture," and added, "In such cases, it is even more important to quickly correct the misinformation about Hanbok worldwide and promote accurate knowledge."
