The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 17th that it has completed the verification tests of facilities for the Daegu Metropolitan Railroad construction project, confirming the safety of railway facilities and the suitability of train operations.
The facility verification test is a process conducted before the opening of a railway line, where test trains are deployed to gradually increase speed in stages, comprehensively verifying the safety status of railway facilities, the operational suitability of railway vehicles, and the interface between vehicles and facilities.
The Rail Network Authority, in collaboration with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and Korea Railroad Corporation, conducted safety inspections (36 items) from August 27 to September 9 at five upgraded existing stations?Gumi, Waegwan, Daegu, Dongdaegu, and Gyeongsan?and two newly established stations?Sagok and Seodaegu. After supplementing the inspection results, the final verification was completed on the 16th.
The Daegu Metropolitan Railroad is the first local metropolitan railroad network construction project connecting Gumi to Gyeongsan in Gyeongbuk (61.9 km, upgrading the existing Gyeongbu Line) with a total project cost of 209.2 billion KRW.
The Rail Network Authority plans to start commercial trial operations on this line from the 28th of this month, simulating actual business conditions to check the train operation system and the proficiency of railway workers, and aims to open the line by mid-December this year.
Lee Seong-hae, Chairman of the Rail Network Authority, said, “The Daegu Metropolitan Railroad construction project is a low-cost, high-efficiency project utilizing the spare capacity of the existing Gyeongbu Line track.” He added, “Once this line opens, it will connect Daegu and the Gyeongbuk area within 40 minutes, improving transportation convenience for users in the Daegu region.”
