On the 20th, All Holders of Functional and Artistic Skills Gathered in Yangnim-dong
A stage will be set up in Gwangju to share the historical and cultural value of intangible heritage with citizens and to immerse in the artistic spirit of skilled and talented masters.
Nam-gu announced on the 17th that it will hold the "2024 Intangible Heritage Public Event" on the 20th from 2 p.m. at the lawn plaza area of the Craft Street in Penguin Village, Yangnim-dong.
The artistic stage will feature intangible heritage holders including instrument master Lee Junsu, brush masters An Myeonghwan and Moon Sangho, Namdo ritual food master Min Kyungsuk, pansori Chunhyangga master Bang Seongchun, and gayageum byeongchang master Hwang Seungok.
The intangible heritage public event will be filled with exhibitions and demonstrations of functional categories and performances of artistic categories. In the functional category, various Jindari brushes by brush masters An Myeonghwan and Moon Sanghwa, as well as traditional instruments such as geomungo, ajaeng, and janggu by instrument master Lee Junsu will be exhibited. On-site demonstrations will show the making of instruments and traditional brushes, and ritual food master Min Kyungsuk will demonstrate making Sagunja squid orim used in traditional wedding paebaek ceremonies.
The stage performances by intangible heritage artistic holders will begin at 4:30 p.m. Starting with master Bang Seongchun’s passionate singing of pansori Chunhyangga, master Hwang Seungok will perform a byeongchang stage playing the gayageum while singing. This will be followed by a folk song choir stage, and masters Bang Seongchun and Hwang Seungok will come together on stage to conclude the event. Additionally, gayageum byeongchang, daegeum sanjo, traditional dance, instrumental ensemble, and buk dance will be showcased, and around the event venue, visitors can also experience traditional top spinning and tuho games.
A Nam-gu official said, “This event allows you to watch the stages directly performed by intangible heritage holders on site, and we hope everyone enjoys the charm and excitement of traditional culture to the fullest at the event venue on the day of the performance.”
