A YouTuber who used to work as an announcer shared their experience of being fired by the company with just one line on KakaoTalk.
Recently, a video titled "A story revealed only now. Three years of dreams shattered by one line on KakaoTalk. Unfair dismissal of an announcer" was uploaded on the YouTube channel 'Jiyun Diary'. In the video, the YouTuber began by saying, "My life completely changed after receiving a dismissal notice with just one line on KakaoTalk."
According to the video, the YouTuber started preparing to become an announcer in 2019 and passed an exam for a sports channel in 2021, about three years later. They recalled, "I worked hard attending training and studying alone to debut on air. I was someone who had a habit of doing everything diligently. Every time I spoke the lines I had memorized word by word, it made me happy because it was the opportunity I had earned and the image of myself I had longed for."
One day, while getting ready for work, they saw a KakaoTalk message saying, "You don't have to come starting the day after tomorrow." It was a dismissal notice from the company sent via KakaoTalk overnight. The YouTuber said, "I even had a broadcast scheduled for next week and had already done the costume fitting," adding, "The hardest part of preparing and working as an announcer was not the long preparation period or repeated failures. It was the fact that I could only work if I was chosen. If I wasn't chosen, the time and effort I invested lost their value."
They said that the dismissal notice led them to change their life goals. It was to live a proactive life where they could make choices and take responsibility for the outcomes. They revealed that they liked being an announcer because it involved delivering helpful information to people, but "I realized this was something I could do even without being chosen as an announcer."

Currently working as an online speech instructor, they said, "I feel truly happy every time I read reviews. The dream that was shattered by one line on KakaoTalk actually allowed me to dream a new dream," and added, "If I can continue the most essential reason why I wanted to be an announcer in other ways besides being an announcer, and if I can have the choice in that life, then I have achieved my dream."
Netizens who watched the video expressed various reactions such as, "Being fired with just one line on KakaoTalk is too harsh," "Is it okay to fire freelancers like that?" "It must have been so shocking on the way to work," "Still, it's admirable how you don't lose your dream," "I will keep supporting you," "A truly heartfelt video that brings tears," "I hope the company officials watch this and reflect," and "A world that ignores the dreams and passion of young people."
Meanwhile, according to labor law, employers must give a one-month advance notice of dismissal to workers who have worked for more than three months. If an employee is dismissed immediately without prior notice, the employer must pay at least 30 days’ worth of ordinary wages. If a freelancer contract is signed, the person is not considered a worker and labor law does not apply. However, if the contract is only in freelancer form but the person worked like a regular employee, worker status is recognized and labor law protection applies. In such cases, dismissal before the contract period expires is considered unfair dismissal.
