Fireworks drone show presented at the '2024 Goyang Hosu Arts Festival (Goyang Street Arts Festival 2024)'. Hosted by Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province and organized by the Goyang Cultural Foundation (Chairman Lee Dong-hwan), the representative street arts festival of Korea, ‘2024 Goyang Hosu Arts Festival (Goyang Street Arts Festival 2024),’ concluded successfully with a record-breaking attendance of approximately 460,000 spectators.
Under the slogan ‘Fairy Tale-like Streets, Into the Story,’ the ‘2024 Goyang Hosu Arts Festival’ featured 69 domestic and international teams presenting 153 top-tier street arts performances, attracting around 460,000 viewers.
In particular, the ‘Fireworks Drone Show’ that lit up the sky over Ilsan Lake Park on the 12th and 13th was the first large-scale drone show in Goyang City, featuring 1,000 drones. It painted scenes from classic fairy tales in the sky, offering a magical night to the visitors of Goyang City. The three-dimensional production and the scenes drawn above the lake sky with fireworks drones amazed the audience, and the subsequent fireworks display unfolded brilliantly, welcoming visitors to Ilsan Lake Park and marking the grand finale of the Goyang Hosu Arts Festival.
The opening work presented on the 12th, ‘Hello, Stranger,’ was Korea’s first multi-object piece combining three aerial objects and a fireworks performance. Using both the sky and ground of Ilsan Lake Park as the stage, it welcomed festival attendees and announced the festival’s start in a spectacular fashion. Especially, the highlight scene ‘Human Net,’ a group aerial performance by 30 Goyang citizens, created a magnificent spectacle that moved the audience.
The closing performance, marking the grand finale of the festival, was held by Korea’s top rock band, ‘YB (Yoon Do-hyun Band).’ Approximately 20,000 spectators filling Ilsan Lake Park sang along to YB’s famous songs, filling the autumn night with passionate energy. Following this, the festival concluded its three-day journey with the grand fireworks drone show, promising a return next year.
The 153 street performances over three days included seven official invited works selected through a competitive process, 14 free participation works, two international invited works, and an open square stage featuring emerging artists. These showcased the essence of street arts to the audience with the best domestic and international works in contemporary circus, marionette puppet shows, street theater, performances, magic, and mime.
Especially, the special planned performance ‘Wakjajikkeol Yulangdan’ at the 2024 Goyang Hosu Arts Festival, consisting of balloon performances and a marionette mobile parade by Goyang artists, captivated many family audiences and created joyful memories. The wooden puppet exhibition experience ‘Jepetto House,’ themed around Pinocchio’s Grandpa Gepetto, also ended successfully with enthusiastic responses from the audience. Along with various performances, circus experience programs and children’s art programs in collaboration with Aram Museum of Art provided a festival full of sensory delights.
Nam Hyun, CEO of the Goyang Cultural Foundation, said, “Despite the record number of attendees, the festival concluded safely without a single minor accident. We thank all the spectators for their cooperation and everyone who worked hard for safety.” He added, “Not only Goyang citizens but also many visitors from neighboring areas came and enjoyed the festival. We hope everyone experienced the fairy tale-like joy that street arts offer at the 2024 Goyang Hosu Arts Festival.”
Celebrating its 13th year this year, the Goyang Hosu Arts Festival is Korea’s representative street arts festival, showcasing excellent street arts performances from home and abroad to many visitors to Goyang City.
