Flying at 150km/h Passing Obstacles... Full of Excitement
Chuncheon City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Yuk Dong-han) announced on the 17th that the "2024 Chuncheon Drone Racing Cup," hosted by Chuncheon City and organized by the Gangwon Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, will be held on November 8th and 9th.
Drone racing is a competition where drones fly at speeds of 80 to 150 km/h while passing through obstacles. It is a drone sport that requires not only speed but also precise control, promising an exciting and thrilling competition.
The tournament will be divided into three drone racing categories: Class A, Class B, and Digital Cinehoop. Eligibility to participate requires holding at least four types of ultralight aircraft licenses, and participants can be domestic or international players.
In addition to the races, the Chuncheon Drone Racing Cup will offer various drone-related experience events such as racing trials, claw machine games, and basketball. Furthermore, these activities will be held alongside the 2024 Korea Local Era Expo, taking place from the 6th to the 8th around the Songam Sports Town area, providing even more attractions and entertainment.
Registration is open until the 30th on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants can register on the website of the Korea Drone Racing Association, a non-profit organization.
Meanwhile, Chuncheon City has submitted an application to designate the Seomyeon Chuncheon Drone Testbed and Songam Sports Town area as a government project drone special free zone. If designated as a special free zone, procedures such as certification, permission, approval, and evaluation required for drone flights will be simplified, deferred, or exempted. Through this, Chuncheon City plans to expand the base of leisure drones linked to the tourism industry and create a safe flying environment.
