LX Group announced on the 17th that the "2024 LX Cup Korea Women's Baseball Tournament," co-hosted and organized with the Women's Baseball Association of Korea (WBAK), will open on the 19th.
A total of 41 teams and about 1,000 players will participate in this two-week-long tournament. The games will be held on weekends at LG Champions Park Dream Stadium in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
The tournament will be conducted in a knockout format with 16 teams in the Champ League (upper league) and 25 teams in the Future League (lower league), concluding with the Champ League final and awards ceremony on the 27th.
All games are free to watch for everyone, and the Champ League opening game (October 19) and final game (October 27) will be broadcast live on YouTube.
The LX Cup Korea Women's Baseball Tournament is the only nationwide women's baseball tournament in Korea sponsored by a corporation, now in its third year. LX Group newly began sponsoring the tournament in 2022, succeeding the "LG Cup Korea Women's Baseball Tournament," which LG Electronics launched and operated in 2012.
Thanks to the support of Koo Bon-joon, Chairman of LX Group, who has a special passion for baseball, unlike other domestic women's baseball tournaments, the games are held in professional stadiums, and the scale of sponsorship is large, generating enthusiastic support and response from the players. Chairman Koo visits the game site every year to personally encourage the players.
A representative from LX Holdings said, "We hope this event will be an opportunity for all participating players to showcase their high skills," adding, "We hope it will serve as a chance for Korean women's baseball to expand its base and develop amid public interest and love."
