Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it has selected the recipients of the ‘29th Geumcheon Citizen Award’ to honor those who have devoted themselves to creating a bright and wholesome local community.
The ‘Geumcheon Citizen Award’ is given to residents or organizations who have dedicated themselves to the development of the local community in four categories: community service, public morals, culture, and sports.
From August 6 to September 4, the district conducted a merit review of 20 nominees and 2 organizations recommended from various sectors and selected 7 awardees.
In the community service category, Ko Young-tae, Na Yi-gyun, Lee Jeong-sun, and Choi Sang-gyu were jointly selected, while Kim Jeom-suk was honored in the public morals category, Song Il-bong in culture, and Heo Young-rok in sports.
Ko Young-tae, selected as a recipient in the community service category, has contributed to the development of the local community by dedicating himself to various fields such as food sharing for vulnerable groups, event support, and resident autonomy projects as a member of the Volunteer Camp, Neighbor Love Volunteer Group, and Resident Autonomy Committee.
Since 2010, Na Yi-gyun has taken the lead in protecting and preserving the environment, the foundation of the community, through activities such as free meal services, sharing rice with love, protecting flora and fauna, guarding local mountains, and sorting garbage.

She also contributed to community safety as a member of the Siheung 1-dong Defense Council.
Choi Sang-gyu has served the community by repairing houses in need through activities with the Saemaul Leaders’ Council and the Resident Autonomy Committee. He actively participated in sharing events for marginalized groups and elderly living alone and supported Resident Autonomy Committee events, contributing to the development of the district.
Kim Jeom-suk, selected in the public morals category, demonstrated filial piety by devotedly caring for her mother-in-law, fostering family harmony and peace. Furthermore, she registered as a volunteer at the nursing home where her mother-in-law resides and carried out volunteer activities for other elderly residents, spreading public morals such as respect for the elderly and contributing to the cultivation of community spirit.
Song Il-bong, the culture category awardee, participated in planning the district newsletter as an editorial committee member, promoted and advised on the joint reenactment event of King Jeongjo’s royal procession as a member of the public-private cooperation (governance) committee, and introduced Geumcheon-gu on radio broadcasts to widely promote the district.
