Busan Geumjeong District Mayor Voter Turnout 43.3%
Jeonnam Yeonggwang County Governor Voter Turnout 68.2%
Seoul Superintendent of Education Voter Turnout 20.3%
The voter turnout for the October 16 by-elections to elect four basic local government heads recorded 50.7% as of 6 p.m. This surpasses not only the turnout at the same time during the October 11 by-election for the Gangseo District Mayor in Seoul last year but also the final turnout rate.
The National Election Commission announced that as of 6 p.m. on the 16th, out of 323,208 eligible voters nationwide in the four ongoing by-elections, 163,884 had cast their votes.
This turnout rate exceeds the 43.8% turnout at the same time during last year's Seoul Gangseo District Mayor by-election, as well as the final turnout rate of 48.7%.
The voter turnout for the Busan Geumjeong District Mayor by-election was 43.3%, and for the Incheon Ganghwa County Governor by-election, it was 55.7%. The turnout for the Jeonnam Yeonggwang County Governor re-election was 68.2%, and for the Jeonnam Gokseong County Governor re-election, it was 63.2%.
Earlier, the early voting rates were 20.63% in Geumjeong District, 27.90% in Ganghwa County, 43.06% in Yeonggwang County, and 41.44% in Gokseong County.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent by-election recorded a 20.3% turnout as of 6 p.m., with 1,691,645 voters casting ballots out of 8,321,972 eligible voters.
Since this election is a by-election, voting will continue until 8 p.m. Polling station locations can be confirmed through the voting guide delivered to each household, the local government’s voter list viewing system, or the polling station finder service linked on the National Election Commission’s website (nec.go.kr).
