KOSPI and KOSDAQ Close Lower Amid Foreign and Institutional 'Selling'

On the 16th, the Korean stock market closed lower due to simultaneous selling by foreigners and institutions.


The KOSPI closed at 2,610.36, down 0.88% (23.09 points) from the previous day. The KOSPI opened at 2,606.70, down 1.02% (26.75 points) from the previous session.


Foreigners and institutions sold a net 665.1 billion KRW and 34.3 billion KRW respectively, pulling the index down. Individuals bought a net 654.1 billion KRW. In the futures market, only foreigners sold 229 billion KRW, while individuals and institutions bought 107.1 billion KRW and 167.8 billion KRW respectively.


Among the top 10 stocks by market capitalization, only LG Energy Solution +0.25% and Hyundai Motor +0.41% rose. Samsung Electronics -2.46%, Shinhan Financial Group -2.42%, Celltrion -2.34%, and SK Hynix -2.18% recorded the highest declines.


The KOSDAQ closed at 765.79, down 1.04% (8.02 points) from the previous day. It opened at 769.19, down 0.60% (4.62 points) from the previous session. Foreigners and institutions sold a net 143.7 billion KRW and 95 billion KRW respectively. Only individuals bought a net 255.9 billion KRW.


All of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization ended lower. Samchundang Pharmaceutical -4.02%, Rino Industrial -3.71%, and Classys -2.29% were among the biggest decliners.
