'Dongdaemun Festival - Mobile Stage' Successfully Concludes

The streets of Janghanpyeong filled with citizens enjoying the festival on the 12th and 13th... Streets packed with various types of performances

From the 12th to the 13th, a new style of festival, ‘Dongdaemun Festival_Mobile Stage,’ made its debut around Janghan-ro in Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung).

Starting at 1 PM on the 12th, various forms of cultural and artistic performances involving citizens took place on the 1.2 km, six-lane main road from Janghanpyeong Station to Jangandong Intersection. Many citizens visited the festival site over the two days and enjoyed themselves.

The street art performances held under the name ‘Stage Anywhere’ featured 22 performance teams including ▲Melancholy Dance Company ▲Bong & Jul ▲Yeonhui Group THE Gwangdae ▲Story Circus ▲Polloseum, showcasing a variety of acts such as circus and outdoor theater.

A 4-meter tall puppet show captivated children’s attention, and the comic mime show brought great laughter to the audience with the cute rhythmic movements of children who voluntarily took the stage.

Families and friends gathered in tents set up on the road, sharing stories and creating memories. Citizens leisurely walked along the usually car-filled main road, enjoying programs that matched their interests.

Additionally, the indie band performance ‘5t Club’ using a 5-ton truck and the ‘Mammoth Theater’ screening pansori plays and silent films stopped visitors in their tracks.

Instead of food trucks, the festival created spaces called ‘rest areas’ throughout the venue where people could eat food purchased from cooperating shops around Jangandong. The ‘Car-Free Day’ event at the Janghanpyeong Station Food Alley shopping district was held simultaneously, allowing citizens to enjoy their meals in the cool autumn breeze.

The opening program on the 12th, ‘Open Dongdongdongdaemun,’ featured a citizen performance group dressed in colorful costumes dancing joyfully as they paraded. The night was beautifully decorated by paper fireworks filling the sky and the bright smiles of children holding balloons.

Mayor Lee Pil-hyung of Dongdaemun-gu shouted in his opening speech, “If residents participate, connect, and unite like today, Dongdaemun-gu can move toward a greater future.”

Following this, citizens enjoyed the autumn night atmosphere as one, regardless of generation, with the lyrical music of the Kim Chang-wan Band.

During the two-day festival, calls to participate in ‘carbon neutrality’ also echoed throughout the venue. Under the slogan ‘Climate Change? Dongdaemun Has the Answer!,’ the district operated a ‘Carbon Neutrality Experience Booth’ to showcase its vision for carbon neutrality practice and encourage active participation from residents.

Visitors to the experience booth tried making ‘sock yarn coasters and recycled instruments.’ They also took part in the ‘Carbon Neutrality Proud Quiz Show,’ solving quizzes about environmental issues such as the climate crisis, gaining awareness of the seriousness of the climate crisis and the necessity of carbon neutrality.

On the final day, the 13th, the citizen-participation performance ‘Colorful Mupmup’ highlighted the festival. Pre-registered citizen dance groups and professional dancers performed while throwing colorful powder, allowing citizens to freely mingle and enjoy themselves.

This ‘Dongdaemun Festival_Mobile Stage’ successfully concluded, offering citizens special memories within the city.
